August 19, 2005

Dear Colleagues,

I want to extend a warm, enthusiastic welcome to all of you, as we return to what I know will be an exciting, challenging and rewarding 2005-2006 school year. As we reflect upon the last school year, it was evident that everyone emphasized student achievement as a number one priority. Our test scores improved within our Regional Center, which supports the fact that the leadership in our schools focused on ensuring the learning of students. You are to be congratulated for the effectiveness of your efforts to make certain that all students have opportunities to meet high standards. I

t is safe to say that we cannot rest on our laurels. The Florida Department of Education is again raising the bar, which requires us to think “out of the box”. Our new Superintendent, Dr. Rudolph Crew, has stated that his primary focus is student achievement. Regional Center II is aligned with this philosophy as well. Setting standards of excellence for all students, and working toward those goals will be our guiding force.

It is essential that in order to have first-rate schools, we must have first-rate leadership. I am confident that the leadership at each school site represents the best Miami-Dade County Schools can offer. Each of you possesses special gifts and talents that make your school site unique. I encourage you to share unique ideas with your staff, create new visions for your students, parents and teachers, support each other as colleagues, and focus on student learning. I invite you to be risk takers, accept new challenges, and grow professionally and personally. The rewards are great!

As always, The Regional Center II leadership team is here to assist you in your quest for excellence. As you strive to guide instructional improvement in your schools we are here to support your efforts. As you review multiple sources of data to assess, identify, and apply instructional improvement, we will make every effort to provide valuable resources that are needed.

I look forward to this year with excitement as I always do. Thank you for being an important force in the professional learning community of Regional Center II schools.

Sincerely,

Enid Weisman, Regional Superintendent

Regional Center II
